This is a great topic. I talk with my 16 year old daughter about taking responsibility for her behaviors, but not expecting to dictate others'. I figure if she can get this in high school (a very good test!), then she will be way ahead of the game as she enters adulthood. Good content, Jim-

I think that this is excellent and improving my self talk is something that will justify my awareness of myself and improve the way i am, i have had a difficult past and i have had alot of ups and downs in my life. However i feel that im stuck in these downs and i find myself blaming others for my mistakes and the reasons for me not progressing how i should. However through what was said i think that self-talk plays a major role in who you are, with positive self talk you promote a positive self image of yourself. People see this and are attracted to it, i find that just saying to yourself that your not good enough, or saying that i cant do this, or saying that will cause this are all implications of negative self talk... and this should be reversed because the truth is that we all are beautiful, important, and we all have something special and unique to offer to the world and to those around you. I just hope that my self-confidence and self worth improves so i can have a better quality of life... and i think through improving my self talk is the first step into a new me

Jim-

You mentioned Terrence McKenna as one of the people who influenced you. I know little about him, but I do know about a friend of his (also referenced on his web page that you link to).

Ruper Sheldrake is a British biologist with some interesting theories and ideas about the perception and the mind. I was introduced to him at JFK University about 25-years ago and read one of his early books, "The Presence of the Past" where he laid out this theory of morphic resonance and morphogenetic fields. His views about what he calls a new science of life are optimistic to say the least. His ideas and experiments offer a unique and compelling insight into evolution, the nature of perception, and the role of memory in natural phenomena.

I hope you will check him out and perhaps read some of his books/papers.
